When Eco-disaster Strikes...!
by DAN Medical Team on March 20th, 2017
On March 4, 2017, the Caledonian Sky, a Bahamian-flagged cruise ship, ran aground and smashed into one of the world's most renowned coral reefs at Raja Ampat -- called Crossover Reef -- in Indonesia last week. See the Top News - article
and the The Guardian - article.
The diving spots are gone. The 17.000 square meters of the reef is mostly gone.
A big part of the livelihood of the locals, who relied on the sea and that reef, is gone.
All because the captain of the passenger liner was not where it was supposed to be.
The company is not providing answers and is only looking at financial compensation.
A number of issues are at stake here for that community.
We invite our DAN members, offer their comments...
