Get Ready To Dive

DAN’s Giant Stride was designed to help new divers enhance their dive safety knowledge. A great companion piece to any entry-level course, this digital guide provides important information about scuba gear, dive planning, and dive etiquette. After achieving certification, divers can continue to rely on the guide as a resource for diving physiology, health and fitness, and considerations for dive travel.

Prepared Diver Course

Prepared Diver is an informative and engaging video-based program for students and new divers that details proper diving behaviours and safe diving procedures. A complement to the entry-level certification, this course offers insight into the science behind fundamental diving skills and highlights best practices vital to making good diving decisions.

At DAN, we believe a smarter diver is a safer diver. Enrol for free and add to your diving knowledge.

DAN’s Medical Assistance Services

DAN’s medical assistance services are available to divers, dive professionals, and health care providers. We offer an emergency hotline, medical information, physician consultations, continuing medical education, and a worldwide referral network of doctors who evaluate and treat divers. We provide real-time assistance during dive emergencies and work to prevent injuries and promote dive safety.

Seals & Rabies Outbreak

Divers Alert Network (DAN) continues to support divers in response to the rabies outbreak among the Cape Fur seal populations in the Western Cape, South Africa. While it is crucial to avoid direct contact with seals that may be infected, we recognise that it may not always be possible. In the event that a DAN member is bitten by a seal, DAN will provide medical assistance, emergency transport, and cover the cost of necessary treatment. If a rabies vaccination is required following a seal bite, it will be covered under your DAN membership benefits. However, please note that the rabies vaccine will not be covered if administered as a preventative measure (prophylaxis).

In case of a seal bite or any diving-related emergency, it is essential to contact the DAN Emergency Hotline at +27-82-810-6010. This number provides critical support, including care coordination and evacuation assistance. It also grants access to DAN’s emergency evacuation services and treatment coverage, even for non-diving-related emergencies.

Please be aware that DAN benefits act as secondary coverage to your primary healthcare and travel insurance. DAN Southern Africa is not an insurance provider and does not sell medical or travel insurance. Instead, we are a non-profit organisation that provides emergency medical coverage to our members through a group insurance policy, focused on travel, medical, and diving-related emergencies. DAN Southern Africa’s primary mission is dive safety. Our efforts, from emergency assistance to safety initiatives and medical research, are dedicated to ensuring divers' well-being. For more details about DAN’s student membership benefits, download the membership guide.
