Get to Know DAN Instructor: Mauro Jije
Mauro Goncalves Jije
Mauro is the Dive Centre and Marine operations manager at Bazaruto Centre for Scientific Studies (BCSS) on Benguerra Island. The island is part of the Bazaruto Archipelago National Marine Park in Mozambique. He grew up in Inhambane.
He started scuba diving in 2009. Purely out of curiosity, but was soon infatuated with marine life. This passion for marine life and environment sparked his interest in pursuing a career as scuba diving instructor.
As a PADI Scuba diving instructor with experience in boat handling, and dive center management along the Mozambican coastline, he joined BCSS in 2020. His primary role is to introduce Scuba diving to support marine research projects at the centre. He initiated and managed to have the centre registered as a 5-star PADI dive centre. BCSS caters primarily for the research demands at the centre but also provide recreational dive training to visiting researchers and diving clients.
He is a DAN Southern Africa member and a Diving First Aid Instructor certified to teach all DAN First Aid and oxygen provider courses. “I wanted to enhance my scuba dive training abilities and general safety precautions. I found the courses informative.”
We hope to see him train other staff members as competent First Aid and Oxygen Providers.
