Sinda da Garça
She started diving in 2016 at the age of 17 years while on a training internship program at Peri-Peri Divers in Tofo,Inhambane.
At the time it was more of a try-out. While on the training program she had the added challenges of learning English and learning how to swim. But she soon became passionate about scuba diving as she continued on the courses and in 2020 she qualified as a PADI scuba Instructor.
Sinda is currently based at the Bazaruto Centre for Scientific Studies (BCSS) on Benguerra Island that is situated within the Bazaruto National Marine Park. Diving with BCSS is different from what she had been doing as an instructor. Working at BCSS open new opportunities to learn. Since joining the centre she has learned a lot about research, diving, marine animals, sciences and the researchers and how they do their research.
“Now I actually can assist them with some of their work such as underwater surveys and understanding more about the ocean’s ways.
“The reason why I did the DAN course is that it will enable me to teach First Aid, Oxygen providing and Basic Life Support. I learnt a lot of cool things about how our bodyworks and now I can spread the information to the community around us.”
